News of Nancal Electric
On November 28, 2024, in accordance with relevant guidelines, the National Energy Administration officially added the "Non-Energy Three-Generation Nuclear Power Reactor Coolant Pump (RCP) Drive" to its list of major technical equipment in the energy sector. This inclusion comes after an expert evaluation and review, and marks the fourth batch of technical equipment designated as "first sets" in the energy field.
The Non-Energy Three-Generation Nuclear Power AP1000 RCP drive serves as the sole power supply for the motor. Its reliable operation is crucial to the stability, availability, and overall performance of the nuclear power plant. To address the supply chain bottleneck in this critical equipment, Shanghai Nancal Electric, Shandong Nuclear Power and Shanghai nuclear engineering R&D institute collaboratively developed a 10 kV/ 50 Hz input, 6.9 kV/ 60 Hz output, 10,500 kVA rated capacity reactor coolant pump drive.
In October 2023, the first domestic Non-Energy Three-Generation Nuclear Power AP1000 reactor coolant pump drive was successfully installed and commissioned as part of the Haiyang Nuclear Power "4-Operation and 1-Standby RCP drive Reliability Enhancement Project". The drive was put into operation as a hot standby unit, with a second unit following shortly thereafter. By October 2024, both drives had successfully demonstrated their capability to automatically engage and take over from the original imported drive during failure events. This has prevented unplanned shutdowns on 3 separate occasions.
In January 2024, the China Machinery Industry Federation organized a national appraisal in Beijing. The expert panel, led by Academician Ye Qizhen, unanimously confirmed that the developed Non-Energy Three-Generation Nuclear Power Nuclear Power Reactor Coolant Pump Drive holds independent intellectual property rights, fills a critical gap in domestic technology, and meets international advanced standards. Notably, the drive’s online replacement technology—without requiring shutdown—is recognized as a global leader. These drives are now ready for widespread adoption in nuclear power plants.
In September 2024, Nancal's long-term operation host drive replaced the original imported host drive at Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant. The new drive passed all tests, including operation, automatic engagement after host drive failure, and restoration after repairs. The switching time under various operating conditions was found to meet the requirement of ≤ 700 ms.
Beyond the energy sector, Nancal has also made significant "first set" strides in industries such as chemicals, mining, and energy storage. Looking ahead, Nancal is committed to continuing its mission of providing high-quality products and offering reliable solutions to further advance the localization of critical technologies.
