First In-Service Gas-to-Electric Compressor Unit of PipeChina Put into Operation, Powered by Nancal Electric Medium Voltage Drives for Localization

On March 25, the first in-service gas-to-electric compressor unit of PipeChina successfully completed its 72-hour trial operation and was officially commissioned at the Quzhou Station of Zhejiang Natural Gas Pipeline Company.

The project has a design pressure of 10MPa and an annual gas transmission capacity of 14 billion cubic meters. All core equipment was fully localized. The project is equipped with two 23500kVA water-cooling medium voltage drives supplied by Shanghai Nancal Electric Co., Ltd., featuring 10kV input and 0-10kV output. The drives achieve 36-pulse rectification and 17-level line voltage output. The system adopts a redundant main control system design and is equipped with power cell fast automatic bypass technology, reliably driving an 18MW excited synchronous motor to provide crucial protection for the long-term stable operation of the compressor unit.

After commissioning, the project will save 35 million cubic meters of natural gas annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 76,000 tonnes per year, strongly promoting the clean and low-carbon transition of energy. At the same time, it will increase the pipeline transmission capacity of the Nanchang-Shanghai main branch of the West-East Gas Pipeline Line 2 by 25%, significantly enhancing the supply guarantee and emergency peak-shaving capacity of the Yangtze River Delta region.
