At 3:56 AM on March 5, the hydrostatic test for the reactor coolant system of Unit 3 at the Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant was successfully completed, officially transitioning the unit from the construction and installation phase to the commissioning phase. Assessed by the State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation, this test met the standards for a high-maturity, high-quality hydrostatic test. It lays a solid foundation for subsequent key milestones such as the hot functional test and reactor loading, ensuring high-quality startup and operation according to standards.

The hydrostatic test is the first key milestone in the commissioning phase of Unit 3. It comprehensively verifies the pressure-bearing capacity and sealing performance of the unit's key systems, ensuring the integrity and reliability of the pressure boundary. This serves not only as a systematic "physical examination" of the installation quality but also as a crucial step to ensure nuclear safety throughout the unit's lifecycle. The hydrostatic test confirmed that the four reactor coolant pumps and their localized drives for Unit 3 operated normally, that the primary circuit pressure boundary maintained good integrity with qualified pressure-bearing performance, and that the installation quality of related systems and equipment was excellent—all successfully achieved on the first attempt.

Haiyang Nuclear Power Units 3 and 4 are key projects under China's 14th Five-Year Plan. Upon their full commercial operation as scheduled in 2027, the four units at Haiyang will have an annual generating capacity of 40 billion kWh, capable of meeting half of the residential electricity demand in Shandong Province. They will simultaneously enable the "Heating Qingdao with Nuclear Energy" project, helping to build a cross-regional "zero-carbon" heating network in the Jiaodong Peninsula and promoting the integrated development of clean heating and the transformation of the regional energy structure. The long-term heating capacity of the project is expected to reach 200 million square meters.
